The “H2o” in the “Ski House H2o” may represent the passion of the house owners of water sport, namely water-skiing. The passion appears in the design of the house and its features. Firstly, they modified an existing artificial lake in the agricultural property they bough to be used for slalom course racing/water skiing. Secondly, this modern house features design that admires the artificial lake along with its surroundings. Located in Hobe Sound in Florida, the open design (especially at the upper transom windows) lets breezes in for cooling after passing the lake’s water and the lap pool. This design creates a passive air conditioning for the lake house. Moreover, the open design also captures the view of the surroundings. The house comes with spacious rooftop area enclosed by wonderful elegant and simple grey metal balustrade. There, the landscape and lake view. This house is built on a small hill with a long flat volume and cantilevered volume at one end. The roof is flat and there’s an entrance at the middle of the house. The grey metal roof is slightly slanted and guests can see the other side of the garden through the middle entrance just from the driveway.

This twisted villa is not only twisted, each end of the house is widened and the middle part is lowered down a bit to create a higher-end design. There, just above the main entrance the façade is expanded to the front creating a shelter for the entrance area. This glass entrance with its courtyard and the series of skylights of the underground level create a strong sense of modern style, enhancing the sense of sophisticated design. The lawn garden is large and is bordered with low wall stone. From the rear, the natural rounded wood cladding is combined with the clean white façade with its black accents. The need for space for three generations should be overcome with its massive structure.

This 2 levels / stories house on a slope with “underground” garage belongs to architects Frederico Zanelato of Frederico Zanelato Architects. The home is located in fresh and beautiful greenery near São Paulo, Brazil. This house was built to follow the slope terrain. But the architects reshaped most part of the ground creating a stratified, two-level ground before they built the house. At the main level is the garage, this garage is sheltered by the expanded and cantilevered main volume of the house which is built on the higher level of the ground.

The glasses only reveal the wooden walls behind while the rooms behind are quite covered. Inside, the interior looks “softer” in design. The wood inside this home boasts lighter wood colors and for the walls, with a beautiful pattern. The pattern of the wood wall in the dining room looks like a brick wall pattern, there, a white kitchen acts as a focal point. This kitchen looks minimalist and is quite small in size. This kitchen also is bright. A long horizontal window gives ample natural lights to the interior. Next to the kitchen is a little bit more rustic dining table and a long wooden bench. And, just a few ft away, a living room looks wonderful and comfortable. A glass clad fireplace looks luxurious. Instead of having a mantel, this fireplace looks “cleaner”. There, a wonderful table lamp and a mosaic wall art together with the geometric wall shelf also decorate the entire great room interior. This interior feels warmth yet intimate at once.

And if you can get a teak wood kitchen set, the kitchen’s quality would be so adorable. Such kitchen would be solid and durable. The finish can be in dark brown color or in lighter shades. The countertop can be darker in color. A white marble counter would look elegant and cheerful. Darker colors like soapstone counter would make the kitchen looks a little bit more elegant. A butcher look countertop made of wood block would add charm in any kitchen interior. And, a simple laminate countertop can be inexpensive yet can be made with various patterns / styles.

The owners decided to keep the styling and the structure but also doubled the size of the new house with addition. The solution was then to replicate the structure of the beams and glulam posts. The new structure was then connected with steel plates of the existing building. The exterior of the building looks awesome. There is a large balcony with large stair to the wooden deck at ground floor. The deck is completed with dining table set and chairs and outdoor sofa.

The large living room, the kitchen and the dining room enjoy the view of the coast, and the sea. The living room is quite large and features big sectional sofa. A rustic square wooden table looks as a great accent furniture there. The kitchen is quite minimalist. There, the backsplash is so wonderful and classy with its floral mosaic. The dining room is located at the same room and just a few meters away.the dining table is long, simple and also looks minimalist. At the center of the room, dual / double sided fireplace separates both dining room and kitchen with the living room as well as connects them. Also, the interiors also have similar grey color making the look of these are calm, comfortable and are really elegant. Photos by Sandro Lendler.
