This Holiday house belongs to the architect Adam Michael and is located in the Australia outback. After designing many retreat houses an architect may need to relax and enjoy himself in his own retreat house. The site location is on a hill with very beautiful surroundings of hills, valley and lush green forest. It seems that it was important for the architect to build the house with large glass cladding, mostly for the living areas. These areas also have a reflecting pool that creates the aura of calm and serene as well as mimicking the nature. The other areas are built in separate volumes. These areas house two bedrooms. The glass cladding also are utilized well for those volumes but only at the valley facing sides. These volumes are clad mostly with dark timber. All of the areas including living and bedrooms are sheltered with open roof. The roof also being mounted with PV cells to collect the solar energy.

It is a place where the focus of activities do follow the sun movement. This vacation house is located on a slope with a design that follows the terrain. The top level of this vacation house is the “palace of the captain” in regard to the “legacy” of the city of Korcula where every place has its own harbor and fishing houses. The mild grey color of the wall matches the landscape as a whole. It looks elegant and inviting. The stone wall that encircles the house and the terraced plot enhances the sense of its elegance. Being built on a slope, the garden is stepped. This terraced garden is completed with multiple garden beds with small plants. This slope garden is not lush but yes, it is green and relaxing.

The gable roof is sure the most interesting part of the exterior. But it is not just a design. The home actually consists of two houses in one house. The design has a purpose for giving a separated living space while maintaining a sense of privacy. From the design point of view, the home looks beautiful with its stone and minimalist wood façade. At the exterior, the driveway in the front of this home is also interesting. It is elevated above the ground level because of the slope terrain. Inside, the interiors are done in similar fashion. They interior features stone floors and wooden walls. And, the interiors also boast the similar minimalist style and similar cream and gray color combination. The interiors are also bright thanks to the large windows. These windows also capture the views of the home’s countryside neighborhood.

Instead of creating a new garage door that faces at the rear, the look of the door seems that the garage door is a new entrance door. The house has gotten that such impression thanks to the small brown wooden door, the recessed design, the overhanging studio volume and the dark color of the door that mimic the color of the existing fence. As a whole, this studio looks as if this is a new building with its own address.

The living room and kitchen feature wooden door with warmth color and patterns. Wooden elements also are used throughout other parts of the interiors like bedroom and bathroom. Moreover, the large glass wall at the pool connects the interior and the exterior of this black and white slope house, visually and perceptively. There, an interior swimming pool was created and was designed with large glass wall enclosure. There, the privacy is protected by a screen look facade decoration that distract views from the street. this white front facade decoration looks wonderful from the outside and becomes a beautiful contracting color to the black wooden wall.
