With the owner’s blooming architecture and painting business and the growing son, came a time when the existing house/office didn’t provide enough space for the growing needs. But instead of moving into a new location, the owner, architect Craig Steely opted to reconfigure the existing house. The renovation was basically relocating the ‘public’ living spaces into the new level above the existing two levels. There were kitchen, dining and living room to relocate while the professional office for him and his painter wife is still located in the lower level.

A dark large wooden bookshelves look calm and elegant. The velvet look sofa comes with numerous sofa cushions. The brown rug there is a wonderful color combination to the gray sofa. 2 square wooden tables adorn the living room with the wonderful side patterns. And, 2 blue ottomans bring some happy ambiance for the living room. Furniture pieces used in this home seem are accent furniture. The furniture pieces are stylish and mostly modern. The dining room is completed with big square white dining table for 12. Each table side accommodates 3 classy vintage modern dining chairs with amazing light gray and white cushions’ colors. The kitchen is located on the same ground floor at the other side. The L shaped kitchen is adorned with quartz countertop in clean white color. The kitchen island is completed with multiple burners and is featured with elegant gray range hood with lights.

The size is about 350 sq meters and is built in three floors. The front facade features large glass wall covered by large louvers. There’s a suspended small balcony with glass balustrade and an open concept living room at ground floor. A big V shaped metal beams support the upper volume that cover the fully glass clad living room. The courtyard is small but looks classy. A sunken pond is surrounded by stairs and small bamboo plants. This courtyard is wonderfully lighted at nights.

Well, the garden itself looks more natural than other gardens with delicate flower plants. But the landscaping for this home is wonderful. The shrubs are small and adorn the big trees nicely. The hardscaping / pavement looks natural yet is not quite simple to do. The pavement are made of stone slabs with different sizes and shapes. Sure it took more time to complete the landscaping than using paver. But the look of the pavement is gorgeous for this forest and lake glass house.

The high barn style ceiling is used to create a large, tall floor to ceiling bookshelves for private library. At the top shelves, the shelves were made with V shapes creating wonderful geometric form. There, a stylish wooden ceiling fan was used to make the already airy interior more comfortable. It has stone wall that holds the fireplace. A big wooden kitchen looks more like a small cabin with an opening and counter. This is the kitchen that is located just behind the large shaded wooden deck / terrace. A gray range hood is located just inside the “cabin” above the countertop. An internal ventilation directs hot gasses and smokes directly to the chimney above the roof. The plus side here is, the industrial-style black vent is a subtle yet fabulous decoration in this home. Next to the kitchen, a long simple wooden dining table completed the interior. 3 wonderful suspension lamps with industrial style adorn the dining room in a row arrangement. There’s a living room with classy white sofa and black hanging fireplace. 3 pendant / suspension lamps with sphere, thick disk and curved tube shapes were used to decorate the living room. The exposed timber posts for this room are recycled solid hardwood. With the exposed recycled hardwood timber posts, paired rafters and scissor trusses. As a whole, this building is a contemporary interpretation of a country house. It is modern, natural and is very well designed to enjoy the views outside. Architect: Max Pritchard Architect.
