The clients wanted a comfortable residence on a fame vacation area on a coast in Jamberoo south of Sydney. Private guest accommodation was a must as well as large entertaining areas. Before designing this building, there were some that have to be considered. It had to blend with the existing country house buildings like the existing barn. Old dairy. Sheds and cottage. It also had to consider the local climate that pours heavy rains and blows strong winds.
The result is a wooden house that was built in three building connected by a breezeway to maximize views. A simple serene garden with spacious lawn welcomes the owners every day. The backyard is spacious and features a garden bed along with a big tree. The home also features large glass to invite the views inside. Large wooden terrace / decking was built with uninterrupted view to the landscape. The design of the wall / facade also is wonderful. The wooden wall was made with long vertical wood planks. The look of the home is so fabulous, modern and exudes warmth and welcoming ambiance. Another hot spot in this home would be the outdoor dining area. This area is shaded, covered by large roof and features a fireplace with stone wall around the fireplace. The design looks so comfy and serene.
The interior design is calm and looks natural with the wood material. The main pavilion features a dramatic cathedral ceiling. The high barn style ceiling is used to create a large, tall floor to ceiling bookshelves for private library. At the top shelves, the shelves were made with V shapes creating wonderful geometric form. There, a stylish wooden ceiling fan was used to make the already airy interior more comfortable. It has stone wall that holds the fireplace. A big wooden kitchen looks more like a small cabin with an opening and counter. This is the kitchen that is located just behind the large shaded wooden deck / terrace. A gray range hood is located just inside the “cabin” above the countertop. An internal ventilation directs hot gasses and smokes directly to the chimney above the roof. The plus side here is, the industrial-style black vent is a subtle yet fabulous decoration in this home. Next to the kitchen, a long simple wooden dining table completed the interior. 3 wonderful suspension lamps with industrial style adorn the dining room in a row arrangement. There’s a living room with classy white sofa and black hanging fireplace. 3 pendant / suspension lamps with sphere, thick disk and curved tube shapes were used to decorate the living room. The exposed timber posts for this room are recycled solid hardwood. With the exposed recycled hardwood timber posts, paired rafters and scissor trusses. As a whole, this building is a contemporary interpretation of a country house. It is modern, natural and is very well designed to enjoy the views outside. Architect: Max Pritchard Architect.
