This beautiful modern house was designed with a vision by the clients, from a young couple looking to step away from the city behind to create a comfortable, sustainable modern home. The home that respects and becomes part of the forested terrain of their 26-acre lot. Particular care was to optimized the house for utilizing its natural resources while preserving the natural topography. The house is set into a clearing between two ridges of rock to the east and west. Set among the towering trees the house benefits from their natural shade and privacy while still allowing for spectacular views of the forest and Georgian Bay. The north side, the entrance is understated façade with minimum glazing. While inside, one could enjoy the view of the Georgian Bay captured by the large picture windows on the south side. The minimalist interiors design helps to focus on the view and compliments the rugged surroundings enhancing the beauty of the landscape and making it an integral part of the design. The simple restrained material pallet of stone, wood, concrete, and white walls contribute to the elemental feeling of the house..

Giving the study an appropriate atmosphere, beside being built facing the north side, the room is also built facing the lanai across the pool. The architect expects to maximize this single story house’s function in the smallest space possible while at the same time, dealing with the inclination of the site and its position. Creating a comfortable house, it was necessary to use bio-climatic design with passive thermal and ventilation. The strategies were the use of automatic-controlled natural ventilation through open window systems and pulley system to synergize with the design of the structure. The design of the structure itself consists of huge glass walls and windows and an inclined roof. It also provides more passive lighting and view.
